The Water Leaders Workshop was started as a pilot program in December 2022. Following the success of this pilot, the New Mexico Bureau of Geology will now host annual 3-day workshops which include classroom and field trip experiences entirely focused on water challenges and success in New Mexico. Each annual workshop will cover different water topics of local and regional importance, as well as provide relevant information on statewide perspectives.
Another outdoor learning opportunity as part of this program includes the Rio Chama Experiences. These 3 day, 2-night river experiences will bring together professional water managers, scientists, public officials, conservationists and water users from around the state. Participants will enjoy a guided, educational river trip, develop closer personal and working relationships and foster a deeper understanding of the Rio Chama and Rio Grande, as well as water management issues in these watersheds.
